Oversaw the design and construction of two major jails and supporting buildings including a Food Factory and Training Facility, considered to be the largest construction project ever undertaken by a county.
Obtained a Certified Jail Manager designation from the National Sheriff’s Association
Helped establish hiring standards for detention officers to staff the new jails.
Successfully worked to settle a court consent decree involving inmate rights that languished over 30 years originally known as Hart v Hill
Appointed by three Arizona governors to the Arizona Peace Officers Standards and Training Board serving for twelve years. The Board sets standards for hire and training of as well as reviewing and assessing discipline for all peace officers in the State of Arizona.
As Chief Deputy successfully worked to quickly settle a civil lawsuit brought by the Department of Justice alleging both enforcement and custody issues
As Chief Deputy worked tirelessly to see that MCSO began immediately complying with the court order issued October 2, 2013 “Supplemental Permanent Injunction/Judgement Order” known as Melendrez v Arpaio laying a solid foundation for future compliance
